There are about 20.3 million veterans in our nation, and all deserve the utmost respect, no matter what role they have committed to.

Think about it, they were willing to sacrifice their very life and well-being to defend their country. And depending on their role, went from just another civilian to a trained killer for us all, and even if they survived, they could come back to civilization as a different person. The aftermath of being in the service could break their very mind and body. The memories brought back never being able to erase. They’ve sacrificed precious time with their families and risked never coming home to those they care for and love most. And if all that doesn’t deserve respect, I don’t know what will. They help represent our country.

Although they still do this much for all of us, surprisingly some people don’t feel the same way. Including veterans themselves even. And yes, we should respect peoples’ opinions, but it wouldn’t be right if they were treating them wrong just because they feel that way. There could be many reasons someone may not look up at veterans, for example if they had a bad personal experience with one, or if they were one themselves and regretted their actions individually, not as a main idea. Or maybe, they are against the actions they have committed, even though it was for a good reason. Think about it this way, it isn’t good to kill people, but protecting our country is a good thing.

Sparkler, America, Sparkle, FireworksSome veterans greatly regret their work, while others view it as an honor. It is hard to explain, but some could regret their doings not selfishly, in a way of they didn’t really believe what they were doing was the way it seemed. For example, they went out believing they are out to protect our country, which they are, but let’s say they regret taking others’ lives, even though it was out of war. They could, after committing to the service, not agree with the governments reasoning for what they have done after. Even those with regret should be respected, and should respect themselves, for only wanting to it for a good cause.

In the end, all veterans, big are small, young or old, male or female, defenders or offenders, regretful or proud, and alive or deceased, deserve respect for their courageousness and sacrifices made selflessly for our country.
